Send us your address and what you see. If a provider covers your address, your request goes to an independent roofer. They inspect the roof and give you the scope and price in writing.
Dallas Roof Works is a referral service, not the roofer. A leak over your head is a miserable thing to sit under. Here is what to do right now, and what happens after you ask for help.

What to do in the next hour
Stay off the roof. A wet or storm-damaged roof is how people get hurt, and the fall is worse than the leak.
- Move furniture, rugs and electronics away from the drip.
- Set a bucket under it. Lay a towel around the bucket.
- Stay clear of a ceiling that sags or bulges, and of any water near a light fixture or outlet.
- Take dated photos of the stain or drip, and the roof from the ground.
- Write down when it started and whether it only leaks in rain.
If anyone is in danger, call 911 first.
Not leaking, and nothing visible from the ground? You may not need a roofer yet. Keep dated photos of the roof as it looks today, so you have a before.
If water is coming in during heavy rain
Do the same steps and empty the bucket as it fills. Water can run along the wood under the shingles and drip out far from the hole, so the stain may not sit under the damage.
A temporary cover on the roof is work for a roofer. Don't climb up to tarp it yourself. Ask the roofer who calls you what they can do for a leak that is active now, and when. The provider sets the schedule and tells you in writing.
How a request works
- Send the address and what you see. Add the photos if you have them.
- We check coverage for your address. We take requests in Dallas and the surrounding area. We confirm your address first, so you know before anything is sent.
- Our independent partner contacts you within 24 to 48 hours. They carry insurance. They inspect the roof, then give you the scope, price, schedule and terms in writing.
The provider does the work and owns those terms. Read them before you say yes. You can also read our referral disclosure.
Repair or replace?
A roofer decides this after looking at the roof. Here is what they check:
- How much of the roof is damaged, and where.
- Whether the damaged area can be repaired and the roof around it is sound.
- How old the roof is and how many repairs it has had.
- Whether the decking, the wood under the shingles, is wet or soft.
Ask the roofer to show you photos of what they found. A fair answer comes with photos and a reason.
What roof repair costs
The provider prices the job after inspecting the roof and gives you the price in writing. We do not post prices, because the roof decides the price.
What moves the price: the size of the damaged area, how steep the roof is, what lies under the shingles, and whether the decking needs replacing.
What to ask any roofer, in writing
Texas has no statewide roofing license, so the paperwork is how you check a roofer. TDLR, the Texas state regulator for trades, lists no roofing program. Ask for:
- A current certificate of insurance.
- The scope of work, with the price, on paper.
- Who issues the warranty, and what it covers.
- Whether the job needs a permit. Dallas says temporary tarps and minor repairs need none, and the city phone for questions is (214) 948-4480.
- References you can call.
Be wary of a roofer who says you won't owe your deductible. Texas Business and Commerce Code 27.02 makes helping you avoid it an offense for the seller.
After a storm: what to photograph and keep
If hail or wind caused the damage, your insurer decides what your policy covers. Keep these records:
- Dated photos from the ground.
- The date of the storm, and any hail on cars, fences or the lawn.
- Photos of interior stains, dated as they change.
- Receipts for temporary fixes.
- Your declarations page and, if you file, your claim number.
- Any roofer's written findings.
The Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) guide warns against permanent repairs before your insurer has seen the damage. Under Texas law a roofer can't act as your adjuster on a roof they are working on or could work on. Ask your insurer questions about your policy directly.

Questions Dallas homeowners ask
Should I climb onto the roof to find the leak?
No. Note where water shows up inside, take photos from the ground, and let a roofer inspect the roof.
Can a damaged area be repaired instead of replacing the roof?
Sometimes. The roofer has to check the damaged area and the condition of the roof around it before they recommend a scope.
Can a handyman fix a roof leak?
Anyone can offer. Because Texas has no statewide roofing license, ask for the certificate of insurance and the written scope and price before you agree.
How fast will someone come out?
The provider sets the schedule and gives it to you in writing.
Can you tell me what the repair will cost from the address?
A price starts with an inspection. After the provider inspects the roof, you get it in writing.
